Freshman year
Sat, 06 Jun 2009
Friday was our last day of classes. In a week, I will be done with finals and summer can officially begin. \o/ My summer plan involves 12 credits of statistics, which should be pretty sweet, and lots of strutting around being lofty and superior at the freshmen touring campus. (After all, I was never a freshman. And I certainly never toured campus. I was born an omniscient sophomore.)
So what did I accomplish this year?
- Have I figured out why I'm a math major? No. I did, however, realize that the thought of not taking more math classes makes me very sad, so I guess I'll just keep taking them. And if I'm still a math major a year from now, after I've suffered through analysis, I'll know there's something to it.
- Have I gone completely insane? Yes. Not content with majoring in math, I have optimistically decided to double major in French, minor in statistics, and get an international degree. Plus the honours college thing. My thesis is going to be a really weird paper on something that nobody cares about... maybe I'll develop a population model for French skwerlz. Or maybe once I get to Europe, I'll lose it, drop out of college, and run off to Finland to herd reindeer.
- Do I have any school spirit? No. The only university-related decor in my room is a paper cutout of its mascot, which came free with the newspaper. It is currently standing proudly in the corner of my desk, except for when the cats knock it over.
But overall, this year was a whole lot of fun, and rather educational, too, I think. Now I even know where Germany is.
Hyena

It's not technically a hyena, but I've added it to the SVG gallery nevertheless.
Eurovision grumbling
Sun, 17 May 2009
No offense, but as far as I can tell, Norway is what you get when you combine annoying music, horrible lyrics, a bizarre stage performance, and an amphibian singer. I'm just not seeing the appeal.
Estonia did quite well, which is consoling, but why was Lithuania at the bottom? Didn't anyone see Sasha's awesome hat? And Montenegro didn't even make it to the final; their Intense Male Dancer alone should have placed them in the top 5.
