Eurovision

Apparently Slovakia placed second to last in the semifinal. I am disappointed in Europe.

I am also disappointed about Germany. Admittedly, it was better than most (particularly Azerbaijan), but there was no reason why Turkey, Greece, or Serbia couldn't have won instead.

Also, Alexander Rybak still looks like a frog.

Added a Finnish Moose.

Eurovision Semifinal 2

May 28, 2010, 5:19 pm

Seems to me that the Eurovision songs are worse this year. The only country in the second semifinal that I wanted in the final was Turkey (who rocked hardcore, as always). I did feel strongly that Armenia and Azerbaijan have no place in the final, but for reasons I do not understand, people seem to like those songs, and thus they will probably do very well tomorrow. Israel was out of tune and painful to listen to. The rest were, again, forgettable.

I want Slovakia back.

Eurovision Semifinal 1

Clearly, there is something wrong with Europe. Slovakia was supposed to win Eurovision, and it's not even going to the final? That Greece and Serbia* made it is a small consolation, but what's up with Bosnia and Russia and Portugal and Belarus and Belgium and Albania and Moldova? Their songs were all completely forgettable (except perhaps Moldova's, which was memorable in a bad way). If they're all going, then Finland's creepy bright-white nonstop-smiling blondes should have made it. At least they were singing in Finnish.

* I actually hated this song at first, but Milan is adorable and the lyrics are hilarious. Plus he did a song that I really like (warning: video is freaky) and whose lyrics are also great fun.

Netbook

My netbook arrived today (or I guess it would be yesterday at this point). She's tiny, glossy black, and very cute. I'm calling her Hirvi (moose) for now, because when I was naming her, my mind went blank and the only Finnish words I could remember were that and Kissa (cat), which looks strange to me in an English context.

But now that I have a dictionary, it seems like Kuori might be better, since she's an ASUS Eee PC Seashell and seashell translates as kuori. On the other hand, I still can't roll my Rs, and this is harder to conceal when the R is surrounded by vowels on either side.
