How It Works
The submitted cat is compared to each breed, which is given an accuracy rating from 0-9 based on the following:
- Body type: 1 point
- Body size: 1 point
- Head shape: 1 point
- Ears: 1 point, divided among two traits:
- Ear size: 0.5 points
- Ear shape: 0.5 points
If the cat has curled folded ears, breeds receive 0.25 points if curled is allowed or if folded is allowed.
- Nose length: 1 point
- Eye shape: 1 point
- Coat: 1 point, divided among seven traits:
- Coat length: 0.14 points
If the cat is hairless, breeds that allow hairless receive 1 point for coat. Anything else entered for coat is ignored. - LaPerm: 0.14 points
- Rex I: 0.14 points
- Rex II: 0.14 points
- Rex III: 0.14 points
- Satin: 0.14 points
- Wirehair: 0.14 points
- Coat length: 0.14 points
- Tail length: 1 point
- Legs: 1 point
If the value of a trait was not specified (i.e. you were using the form), breeds will be given full points for that particular trait.
Colours are not included in the breedcheck because A) very few colour standards are precise, B) it would be a pain to code, and C) it's more educational if you figure it out yourself. :)
Database Updates
I scan the forums daily, so if you've posted a relevant thread with a descriptive title, I'll probably notice it. But, if your thread is off the first page and the update has not happened, feel free to message me.
- Breeds in progress: SirKate maintains the New Breeds in Progress thread in the General forum. Please post your updates there.
- Accepted breeds: I check for these a couple times a month. Poke me if you'd rather not wait.
- 6ex breeds: I've only checked for 6ex breeds once, and I'm not particularly keen on doing it again. Please help keep the list up to date: brag about your kitten in the forum, wave him/her in my face, do what you need to do.
- Sister breeds: If you know of any more sister breeds (breeds that share excellents), message me.
Breeds in progress are generally removed when their creators have no cats, which usually occurs when they haven't been online in a month.
Bugs and Errors
If you find a bug, send me a message. I do need to know what is causing the problem in order to fix it, so please provide information about your computer, browser, breedcheck settings, how long it has been occuring, etc.
Other errors are probably either a mistake in the breedcheck standard or the accuracy calculation. If the breedcheck standard differs from the official standard, send me the name of the breed and the names of the trait(s) that are wrong. If the accuracy is wrong, send me the name of the breed, the URL of the breedcheck results page, and the URL of the cat you were breedchecking.
